The TOTO London team has hosted a series of events recently in the Clerkenwell showroom including one centered around the art of Ikebana. The team lead by our UK General Manager, Kazuki Osugi, invited influential architects and interior designers to learn all about this art form. It was also an opportunity to get real life experience of this famous Japanese craft and understand the philosophy behind the design - the seven principles of the Ikebana flower arrangement: silence, minimalism, shape and line, form, humanity, aesthetics, and structure. We were ably guided through the whole process by our teacher; leading Ikebana expert Toshiko Lizuki a highly skilled and well-known practitioner

Its one thing working for a Japanese company in London but quite another to visit our colleagues on the other side of the world. I had the honour to be invited to Japan as the recipient of TOTO’s President Award which is an opportunity to communicate our work in the UK to our colleagues in Japan. It was not only my first time visiting the HQ but it was also my first trip to Japan, so I had the benefit of the double cultural and business whammy. By Katy

Continuing our series around our popular exhibition, Technology Meets Tradition, at TOTO’s showroom in London, we recently hosted a series of exclusive traditional Japanese Tea Ceremonies. These were demonstrated by Keiko Uchida who gave us incredible insight to the way of tea. Our guests were enchanted by the experience and a greater understanding of Japanese Culture all in the surroundings of our specially designed and constructed Tea House and Zen Garden.

Zen gardens are a fascinating feature of Japanese culture and this summer TOTO celebrates this venerable tradition at a special exhibition at our London showroom. Designed by Emi Morita, a Japanese landscape designer, the installation will be available to visit from 20 May - 31 July 2024. Alongside the garden there will be a unique Japanese Tea House designed by London based architects Squire & Partners.
